The British diver Gary Hunt was proclaimed on Saturday (September 26th) winner of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2015. The last stop of this competition was held in Bilbao (Spain), at the Puente de la Salve, in front of the popular Guggenheim Museum. The edition of this year has left us spectacular images, surprises and a winner that has dominated from the outset and that has known how to maintain his advantage to end in the first place.
Last April we presented in our blog this edition of the Cliff Diving World Series and already pointed to Gary Hunt as a favorite. The Engishman could defend the victory of 2014 and, once achieved this objective, become the champion of five of the seven editions held so far. Hunt has been an undisputed champion and has taken six of the eight stops this year: Colombia, France, United States, Denmark, Portugal and Italy. Last weekend in Bilbao the American Steven LoBue won, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina the Mexican Jonathan Paredes did it.
Precisely Paredes has been the stand-out diver of this year. He finished in third place and won the silver medal at the World Swimming Championships held in Kazan last August. This diver, only 26 years old, promises to be a figure to follow the coming years. The veteran Orlando Duque finished in second place while stiring passions in all the Cliff Diving events in which he takes part. LoBue gave us the shock of this year in La Rochelle (France), when he smashed his head on the platform. And we could see spectacular jumps and scenarios at all the stops.
Women’s World Series
The American Rachelle Simpson is the champion of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2015 in the women’s edition. Competitors jumped in three stops: United States, Portugal and Italy. Simpson was the winner in the first and the last, and his compatriot Cesilie Carlton was the winner in the Portuguese territory. Despite we could see them on fewer occasions, women (jumping 18 meters instead of the men’s 27m.) also left amazing images.
